Day Nine – Focus

Those teachers in my 30 Day Challenge are heading into overwhelm now. It is like the grief process – whenever you decide to jumpstart your life (business) there are identifiable stages that occur. First comes the roaring excitement, the enthusiasm, the joy in finding another 32 teachers just like you: who couldn't care a tiddle where you trained, but rather want to know how your deep passion for the work can be expressed concretely to garner an income, to have a life worth living. When we started our 30 Day Challenge nine days ago, there was an explosion of posting, a cacophony of ideas, wishes, requests, comments, insights – the gamut of human communication was on display for everyone's nourishment. I counted 161 posts in the first 8 days - that's not including comments which almost every post collects beneath it - as others chip in with their comments, advice and encouragement. This blog is not really were my course is happening – that's one of my big discoveries. It's happening on Facebook; it's happening in the sharing between teachers and students; it's happening in obtaining knowledge of real life situations where relevant questions and problems are being faced. The work on your Alexander practice becomes more connected, more immediate, more practical when you make contact with other teachers struggling just like you. It's never too late for you join us and bring in your enthusiasm. This a process, not a course. Start now – why not? In this process you enter, from the initial enthusiasm a variety of options become evident, and what follows is a kind of moderate overwhelm. For many, this results in temporary paralysis: what do I do now? I know, watch television. And you curl up on the couch and let your Self be transported away by a good film (The Intouchables last night), a book, a beachside walk – anything to give your mind a break. It's necessary. And then you move into Stage three – getting focus. We start that next, consider joining us… Your Mission – Determine the 20 that will give you your 80…

20% of what you do will be more effective in building your practice than 80% of the other things you do. Can you identify what that 20% is? If you can, greater benefits will come: more students, increased income, happier situation, a feeling of satisfaction. How do you find what that 20% is? Here's the first clue: it involves you, or your agent (a website, email, flyer, interview, article, twitter, Facebook post, whatever) being in contact with your prospective student. Writing this blog counts within my 20% - because many – not in our course – are reading the top part of my blog and singing into Lite Membership. Every day one or two new ones appear. That was you once, remember? So analyse your day, each day, from that perspective. What actions put you in front of prospective students? Your blog of course, any writing that you plan to send out to people, facebook posts if you are using them on your Page to attract people to you, flyers you make, interviews. But wait, there's more… Here's the second clue: which of all the choices you have will bring you the best return? When I look at my situation, then it has to be any work I do that puts me into contact with individuals interested in joining BodyChance's ProCourse in Japan or USA. That's my back-end business, and the most profitable for BodyChance. What is the most profitable part of your business? And are you putting some focus there every day? If not, that is a clearly definable way for you to organise your Self out of overwhelm – focus on the income return of your actions. Are you earning $10 an hour or $1,000 an hour based on what it will bring you back? You'll always have the 80%, but start to treasure your 20%. Every day. It supports all the rest – it is the engine that makes the rest of your livelihood possible. Today's mission (should you wish to accept it) is to make this analysis of all your tasks, and continue bringing your focus on those activities that most profitable put you in front of prospective students.
