Day Nine - Scenes From A FaceBook Group
Nov 17, 2013It gets crazy inside our Facebook group sometimes - there are many possibilities that awaken in the minds of those participating, and they tend to share with each other about that. I realize it is equally important that now and again we stop and take stock of what we are learning. As a service to those who read my blog, but are not in the Facebook group as Basic Members, every now and again I am posting some of the answers I am giving to members' questions. Not all of them are here, but enough to give you some encouragement to build your Alexander Technique practise. Of course I am also doing this to encourage you to join the other 44 teachers and students already in. This itself in part is how I can realize my dream of transforming the Alexander Technique in a profession that is highly desirable to be in financially. For some of you, that is now starting to be the case. So read on, learn, enjoy, and consider becoming a Basic Member within my coaching group. On How To Choose A Niche I have described 12 qualities that the perfect niche client will possess – you can read that here. Also read Chapter 2 of my E-book (available in Files area) if you haven’t already. Computer users is not a niche – it’s most of the Western world. You’ll have to drill down a LOT MORE to come to a meaningful niche. Remember – you need to build a community. How do you build a community? By teaching IN GROUPS a bunch of people who are joined by a common interests. As you go through your candidates, keep asking this question: “Can I build a community with these people as members?” And if you can, then ask: “Can they afford to pay what I need them to pay to make my biz work?” A yes to both these questions, then the other 10 qualifiers cited in my blog post above are just a bonus. On The Most Valuable Use of My Time This Week Building your sales funnel: leads going into a mailing list. Read up on my blog here to know more about that. On What Is A Sales Funnel and A Lead? Sales funnel describes the process of starting out by attracting 100 people (your leads) who then optin (signup) to your email list (20) who then come to an Introductory talk you offer on your email list (4) and one of them actually signs up by buying 10 tickets to your regular group classes (1). So a sales funnel is that process - starting with 100 leads or prospects, and finally selling one of them into your biz. Once you have accurately nailed down these numbers and conversions (i.e. out 100, 20 joined = 20% conversion rate) then building your business is simple maths. How much does it cost me to get that 1 customer, how much will I get back from that 1 customer? Once you know these answers, you will always be safe. Always? Maybe not ALWAYS, but a heck of a lot safer that 99% of the other businesses out there, that's for sure. Almost NO-ONE does what I have just described for their business. Ask around - see if you can find anyone who has ALL those numbers quickly at hand.... On How To Create Games For Group Teaching Firstly, there are lots of websites online that have descriptions of games you can adapt. That’s a simple way to start. Going deeper – I will be giving you a template to use to create games. And I see that many members have started to share games they use in their groups. Maybe you could start collecting these in a file and load it up into the Files area of the group? Doing that editing work is a really good way to understand how each game might be integrated into you group… [NOTE: This second half of my blog is a paid area describing ideas and exercises (to design and market groups) which are explored in a secret Facebook group together with 44 other teachers and students. You can join anytime and be part of the discussions.] On Using Fear In Selling
Fear is a component of most decision making. That's just how it is. Consider your own decisions - is it true of some of them? Integrity in this matter comes down to being true to the outcomes that are viable, and reminding people of that possibility. I think it is ethical, moral and legal to remind people that failure to attend to certain matters in a timely way will result in harm being allowed to blossom under their very noses. There is a good fear and an unconstructive fear. The good fear is running from fire. The unconstructive one is seeing fire everywhere you go - when their is no fire. Frightening people with a scenario that is unlikely is on the ethics borderline; frightening people with what is likely is on the tough love edge. You get to decide the line, no-one else. On How To Encourage Newbies To Bring Ideas for Exploration You don’t ask, you make it a requirement. You explain that this is part the lesson. I have been extolling that in my blogs last week about leveraging the student’s desire. If you want to make it formal and “education” orientated – then make a sheet with times of the day on it, and give the student the task of jotting down anything they did which caused discomfort or they wish they could do better. Explain that Alexander Technique is not only about dealing with inappropriate movements that create stress, but also about developmentally improving skills in many different areas. I think you could make a great form for all us to use! Or should I make it and license it back to you? :-) What is A Hook To Attract Baby Boomers Who Want To Keep Age At Bay? A teacher asked: "baby boomers want to keep the effects of aging at bay. One phrase as a hook?" You’re asking me for a USP in an area where YOU are the expert, not me. Ask your Self that question - what would hook you? Then ask your Senior friends - which of these hooks work for you? Finding a great USP is like finding a niche - it takes time, research and some insightful brilliance, which arises out of a sustained search.... On Posture Improvement Exercises Added a new version to the Files area – added two emails as I move on to Exercise 3 on the arms. This is an ongoing email seminar, even I don’t know when it ends! I will continue to work through past posts today and catch up with any questions places around the comments boxes. I just gave me my birthday gift – a total black out for three days! I feel wonderfully refreshed and ready to go. Readiness is all. https://www.facebook.com/groups/ATCSProMembers/
