Day Thirty – Partner
Oct 06, 2013It was an accident. We are in the elevator, and suddenly this unknown Japanese man starts speaking impeccable English. Yoshi is there too, our Alexander Yoga guru with his feet behind his head metaphorically, while we all start wondering “Why hasn’t BodyChance Alexander impinged on the yoga scene?” Of course it is obvious. When it takes 4 to 6 years and $50,000 to train one BodyChance Alexander's discovery teacher, where’s the rush of yoga teachers wanting to train in Tokyo? There ain’t any. Keiko Isomura was the only other teacher I knew with deep practise Yoga credentials, and she passed away earlier this month. RIP. And now there’s Yoshi – who is in 3rd Stage and teaching – and Michiko, who only started a few months ago. Well… I was heading out to lunch, needing a quiet time in a hectic day of teaching, but here was this opportunity. A built in translator, an opportunity for growth. Recently I have been entertaining a new concept “BodyChance Entrepreneurs” and looking for candidates for this role. In the elevator, so unexpectedly, the opportunity appeared. So we all went to lunch. Your Task – Look For Opportunities Already There Can I help those around me in the way that they want to be helped?
People often come your way that could help you. The first question to come from your lips needs to be “How can I help them?” When you have that angle clear in your mind, you are ready to start talking with them. You can further build both your businesses by mutually leveraging each other’s advantages. When there’s win-win for both of you, there’s opportunity to grow. Where is that possible for your business right now? It might be in a relationship with a student or organization that you are already in contact with. Have you ever investigated what your students actually do? Have you thought about other things an organization might need from you? Alexander's discovery is remarkable in the way in encourages evangelical behaviour in those who are most helped by it. I am astounded recently by the many high profile artists who are willing to donate their name, brand and time to help promote BCLA in Hollywood. These are stars of Cirque du Solei, well-known actors, a classical guitarist with an immense following, behind the scenes Hollywood headliners – all willing to do what they can to help us grow. It’s awesome. You have no idea how much your students want to help you. Have you ever asked them? Your mission (should you choose to accept it) is to look behind the scenes of your practice and discover who is there and ask: are there ways that you can help them so that they can help you? https://www.facebook.com/groups/ATCSProMembers/
