Trauma-Informed
Alexander Work

Jeremy has been working for 40+ years with the transformation that Alexander's work facilitates in working with the Self. The unique quality of his work is that it encompasses a granual appreciation of muscular-skeletal movements that reflect a deeper idenity and addiction to beliefs that are harmful to well-being.

In this workshop you take a journey exploring a behaviour that parallels Alexander's own. Alexander recognised that he was attempting to transform a behaviour - his loss of voice - that was repetitive, harmful and relentless.

Repetitive - because it kept happening over and over again.
Harmful - because this voice loss jeopardised his acting career.
Relentless - because his effort to change kept being ineffective.

Our life is riddled with behaviours like this - from the benign (eating too much chocolate, always being late) to the malignant (addiction to substances, repetitive harm in relationships).

This workshop doesn't promise to transform your life, but it does promise to throw light onto a means Alexander discovered, that most successfully transformed his own behaviour. It is a model that can be adapted into different areas of your life.

In the workshop, we will follow two approaches - top-down (Alexander's attentional approach) and bottom-up (modern trauma methodology.) In bottom-up work (awareness) the story is less important than the interoceptive information that is arising from the Self. This work has been informed by "Alexander’s Discoveries and HUMANUAL Trauma Resolution" - the training devised by Betsy Polatin. Jeremy is currently in training with Betsy with a group of 14 professional Alexander teachers.

In New York, this workshop is co-taught with Fabio Tavares - see below - a long-time resident teacher in New York, who is also in Betsy's Humanual training program.

Your tuition includes online access to ThinkingBody - two modules of 10 Lessons each exploring the process of transformation, using Alexander's story as the starting point, and my own story as an example of its application.

The online course is available from the moment you book.

PILANDES

Pilates is what you do - PILANDES is how you do it.

PILANDES is based on the postural discoveries of F.M. Alexander (aka Alexander Technique) as applied to Pilates - a specialist application of Alexander's work, designed for anyone who enjoys, practises or teaches Pilates. It doesn't matter if you are a beginner at Pilates or have been a Pilates educator for 10 years - the way we study in PILANDES, everyone is a beginner.

During this one-day workshop you will work with the three pillars of PILANDES:

PILANDES Postural Cueing - how you talk to your Self, and how you talk to your client, making room for a holistic, postural-oriented understanding of how you support each exercise. Postural cueing enriches the voluntary cueing protocols of Pilates.

PILANDES BodyMapping - the key innovation of PILANDES is the insight of the 5 Postural Joints, involved in every exercise. You will learn how to see, think and integrate them into the way you practice and teach. This reinterupts Alexander's concept of "giving directions" into anatomical facts.

PILANDES Touch - there are areas you can touch which encourage postural support of each Pilates exercise, an integral way of communicating postural support to your self and your client. For teachers of Alexander's work, this involves a new way to evolve your touch skills.

Your tuition includes online access to BodyThinking - 64 short videos on body mapping - from the moment you book.

Fabio Tavares

Fabio Tavares is a Brazilian movement artist and educator who ran away to join the circus at the age of 15. In 1999, he moved to New York City, where he has been performing, creating, and teaching ever since. Mr. Tavares performed with the renowned STREB Extreme Action for 14 years and served as its Associate Artistic Director for over a decade. He currently serves on the faculty of the David Geffen School of Drama at Yale and The Juilliard School, where he continues to share his passion for movement, performance, and embodied learning with the next generation of artists.
