A Biological Breakthrough in Behavioural Management

Nov 13, 2017

Chancer wrote that subject line yesterday, as an alternative description of Alexander's discovery.

I've been going on and on this week about animals and plants, and Ra Bernie - one indignant reader from Cornwall - quickly wrote back:

"can I join with all the other pedants. Plants do move. I can't find it, but a recent TED talk showed young seedlings actually playing. So, Mr Body Chance, get your Alexander hands on a plant or two to see what you can influence."

In my lessor moments of sanity, I have tried.

And the novelty of plants moving is just that - a novelty.

So novel in fact, it made it to a TED talk!

Shakyamuni - to whom I keep returning for settling questions of consciousness - declared that plants are not sentient beings. No bad karma for killing them.

Vegans of the wild can relax!

Of course, the tree-hugging naturalists might squeal like pigs when they read that, but come guys! Plants moving???

I've been watching the tree outside my window for years now. It hasn't budged. Meanwhile, the Chancer has been dashing about like a mad thing, trying to imagine he actually exists to do good.

I don't see plants behaving that way.

And BEHAVIOUR is my new buzz word. Not "The Use of the Self" but rather, "The Behaviour of the Self."

Healthy behaviour depends upon efficiency.

All your systems - when efficient - keep you in tune. Health freaks mostly obsess about the digestive, cardio-vascular and respiratory systems. Good circulation, increased oxygen intake, better waste disposal. Blah, blah.

However…

"Exercise" does NOT - read carefully - does NOT alter the behavioural constructs of your neuro-muscular system. When you exercise, do Gym, run, lift weights and all the rest of it - you are NOT priming your neuro-muscular system.

You can be priming your brain - even producing new brain stem cells recent research shows - but is that changing the neuro-muscular behaviour that co-ordinates you?

FM's insight proves that the opposite is true.

Rather than IMPROVE you could just as likely be degrading your system long term. How many runners wreck their knees? How many Yoginis do in their backs? How many athletes end up in pain?

Most of this wouldn't happen if they applied Alexander's discovery to the behaviour of their neuro-muscular system.
