A Student is A Cactus in a Flower Pot

In my apartment in Tokyo - outside the bedroom - I have a cactus growing. In 5 years, it hasn't grown much. It still looks the same.

A cactus is like that. It is extremely limited in growth protentional.

And so are consumer-based students. Students you got through your website, flyer, free introduction or talk at a local Network group. The trouble with a consumer-based student is this: No matter how happy they are with lessons, no matter how much they love your work, no matter how much it has helped them - they are like a cactus in a flower pot. They can stay with you for years, and they won't get you a bigger practice; or increase your revenue.

One of the newest members of our MasterMinders group declared in our coaching session today:

"I get whole families to join my lessons!"

Wow. I've never managed that, and of all the hundreds of teachers I've coached, no-one has ever shared that with me either. But it's the exception, not the rule.

The rule is: one new student equals one student.

Not two. Not a whole family, not even a friend (mostly). Just the one.

Get the one, and you've got to go through the whole thing again. Find another one. Then another. And so on. And it can be different, which is what happened to me this morning….

I was facing a group of 7 people. And those 7 people are giving me access to another 50 people. And those 50 people could give me access to another 20,000 people.

That's not a cactus growing in a flower pot - that's a bloody forest growing in the rain.

Getting the ONE that gets you the 20,000 is not a whole lot different from getting the ONE that leads to ONE. It's the "consumer" market versus the "business" market.

This morning's meeting was with the Operations team of a company that accepted a contract from BodyChance to supply our services for their employees. And this all started with one person, a dinner and a conversation about Alexander's discovery.

It's not as hard as you think, it's just a little slower.
