Almost Fainting in Nagoya - Can You Ever Get ill?
Jun 25, 2018When you run your own business, it's hard to get ill.
I can't remember cancelling a class at BodyChance because I was suddenly sick. I did have a couple of hospital visits over the 20 years, but never wake up in the morning and cancel kind-of-sick.
The worst time I ever had was in Nagoya.
Looking back, I should have cancelled. In those days though, it was just me. I travelled to Nagoya from Kyoto, and taught Friday night, all day Saturday and Sunday. Coming home on Sunday was a joy. I was usually so beat I eschewed the bus and lashed out on a taxi. It arrived at much the same time.
And there were my two little girls - 5 & 3 - patiently waiting for daddy after dinner; on the stairs outside our house; waiting diligently for my taxi…
"DADDY! DADDY!!" they yelled - and ran to me.
(Such devotion I have never experienced since.)
Anyway, back in Nagoya that weekend, I was getting weaker and weaker.
I could hardly stand, and so I finally caved in and did "Floorwork" with my trainees. In Japan, I have never taught it before or since, but on that day, I felt that unless I got down on the floor - and stayed there - I would faint.
And so, I went around, sitting on my legs, taking heads and not saying much.
Later I noticed that I often got sick in Nagoya, and I never figured out why. I since stopped going there, and now never visit it anymore.
However, it did set me thinking about how much my life depended upon my health. I feel it again now, after my return to Australia. A deep exhaustion that seems hard to shake off.
It also came up in our MasterMinders call last night - what do you do when you are not motivated anymore? How do you keep going?
These are critical, life-changing meditations.
One insight on this now is that action drives away contemplation and discovery. When you are too busy all the time, there is not a time to ask:
"Am I doing what I want to be doing? What I need to be doing?"
Having a group of trusted associates - who get it when it comes to running your own Alexander practice, is an invaluable way to support your Self.
I will be offering a free session on ATSuccess MasterMinders on Friday 27th at 8 pm London time.
