An "I" for an "I" - how the Old Testament Lives in the Internet
Dec 06, 2017It all started with Hammurabi in Babylon in 1776 A.D.
He produced this code which scholars claim is the basis of the Old Testament - read Exodus 21-24:
"But if there is serious injury, you are to take life for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot, burn for burn, wound for wound, bruise for bruise."
Today it's been reversed. The internet now lives by this new Code:
"But if there is serious need, you are to give your life for her life, your eye for his eye - yadda yada."
It's an "I" for an "I'. Me first, then You.
Give it to them first; then they will come.
But what if they don't come?
Generosity is great until you are starving and defeated and ready to throw it all in. What kind of balance do you need in this great giveaway?
And the other complexity of this great giveaway: the more you give away, the needier you start to look. Nothing flows to need - people usually run away screaming.
Let me buy your love; I am your sugar daddy.
It's not appealing.
And yet - being hard-nosed about it - giving nothing and making your potential students jump through hoops to get to you - well, that doesn't work either.
You need to strike a balance, and the Old Testament is not a bad guide. This is a business you're running, not a charity.
You want to set up a clear, transactional relationship.
How you design that relationship and strike a balance so you can keep paying the monthly rent, is part and parcel of this month's MasterMinders course on "How to Build A List". You can jump in now, get the videos (easy to download them), join the community and find a way to make your practise hum along towards prosperity.
