Becoming A Hero
Apr 26, 2017Anyone who decides to train as a teacher of Alexander’s discovery is a hero.
Firstly, you are motivated by only a higher calling. There is no evidence for professional success – in fact, quite the opposite. The situation is bleak, with many teachers unable to make a full-time living from teaching.
This is despite the fact, that it takes three years or more to qualify as a teacher in today’s environment. And you won’t get away with paying less than $30,000, despite where you train.
Why would you do that?
Because you care.
Because you see great benefit.
To your Self. And to others. Because you want to change the world. You want to bring about social change. This is why AT teachers are all heroes, at least to me.
Anyone who devotes so much time, energy and brain power into becoming a teacher is motivated by something beyond monetary, social or intellectual achievement. If you wanted any of those, there are so many other paths you could have taken. But you didn’t.
Instead, you took this path: widening the reach of Alexander's discovery.
A hero is usually part of a tragedy.
And the tragedy is not being able to even gift what you have learnt to others. To find that the world is not racing to your door, with open grateful arms, thanking you for the effort you have made.
Quite the contrary.
You are mostly ignored. “Alexander Technique” is a puzzle to most people, with waning interest, less teachers training (except in Japan) and considered a bit “odd” by many folks these days. Of course, you have your absolute devotees, and then the few.
Where are there so few people in the middle? Why is that domain running on empty?
It’s because we still need to figure out how to easily communicate Alexander's discovery to an ordinary person, living a reasonable, middle class life in the developed world. (Let’s not even think about other economic systems for now!)
And that is MY passion: to support the heroes.
To take Alexander's discovery mainstream. To figure out how this work can stand tall and proud in a confused and complex world.
Read about my course for a hero here.
Anyone can apply, not everyone is ready to get in.
Are you a hero?
