Being A Posture Detective - Part II
Aug 04, 2019My knee was starting to hurt.
This was 35 years ago, and my knee had been starting to play up. One day was so bad - it throbbing at night. I was only a fresh young teacher of Alexander's discovery at the time; and a little embarrassed that I even had this problem!
Are teachers of Posture supposed to be perfect?
Ahh…
NO.
We are not.
Because LIFE is not perfect. Life is full of stress: accidents; and deaths; and arguments; and deadlines - whose life is free of all that?
No-one.
Alexander's discovery is not a panacea to life. Life goes on; you get stressed. Its what to do when you get stressed - that is what you can learn at BodyChance.
Stress - especially mental stress - affects your Posture profoundly. You can feel tension; your eyes get tired; your back hurts; you have no energy - all these are issues of Mental Stress and Posture. Two sides of the same thing.
And a knee that hurts.
What did I do? First, I asked a detective's question:
"My knee hurting now - what am I doing recently that is different?"
Whenever you get a new pain, there is a reason. Cause and effect. Nothing in this world happens without there being a cause. However, we often cannot understand or discover the cause. Still, step one is to consider what the cause may be…
As I thought about it - I remembered!
I had a new car.
Being a young man at the time - I'd bought myself a low slung Fiat sports car. Getting out of the driver's seat was difficult. I was twisting my knee to do it!
At that time I found an obvious behaviour to change. And as I changed the way I was getting out of my sports car, my knee slowly started to recover.
I thanked my knee for showing me I needed to change my behaviour.
Pain is there to tell you to investigate. It is saying "Be a Posture Detective for me." If you what to learn how to be a Posture Detective, then sign up for BodyChance’s Golden Week residential next year in May, 2020.
