Better Not To Believe, Just Give Value
Sep 21, 2017At BodyChance, I guess the bankers still think we are stiffing the books.
They look at our Pro school's retention rate - over 85% - then compare that to other schools on their books. We're off the charts. Hmmm. REALLY?
Yes, really. When people believe, they are loyal. They become ardent, even radical. We all know that feeling - we've been through it, even if it has cooled off.
And actually, cooling off is a good thing. Look at it this way:
With the fierce loyalty that Alexander's work inspires in those that take it up, you'd think the work would spread fast. Wouldn't all these inspired, talking heads help gather hordes of people who want lessons?
A quick review of the last 100 years puts that idea to bed.
What is going on here?
It's the problem of the radical believers. They become their own opposition.
Have you ever been cornered by a Vegan fascist? One day, I casually asked why they were Vegan. The counter question was:
"Well, why do you eat Chicken periods?"
Ummm… err. Do I?
"Yes. Eggs."
And I'm thinking:
Get me out of here!
AND you resolve NEVER to ask another Vegan why they do it. NOT EVER AGAIN.
There are Alexander fascists too. People who won't shut up. I know, I was one of them. I can still stand on my soapbox with just a modicum of encouragement. However, I am aware today that this is an (almost) complete waste of time.
People don't want to be spoken down to; they don't want to be told they are wrong or shamed by a radically upright Use Police perched on the front of the chair, sporting a snarky seer that says:
"I know something that you don't know."
(You poor sod)
Of course, I hope I was never as bad as that. I probably was.
These days I think it's better not to believe. It's better to have a genuine wish - a value - to be as helpful as you can; using Alexander's discovery as your primary tool.
No-one wants to be judged.
Everyone likes to be helped.
Communicating in a way that lets people listen is one of the primary skill sets you need to teach, market and be a successful communicator of Alexander's discovery. Come and join me in October as we explore just how you can do that.
