BodyChance Opens in America

So I surprised them all in Los Angeles, walking in unannounced from Tokyo on the  BCLA Opening Night last Friday (August 23rd 2013). I made a dramatic speech, letting everyone know they were witnesses to history in the making. I truly believe that; one day they will be proud to say: I was there when BodyChance launched in America. I am deeply, passionately committed to changing the world, using BodyChance as my vehicle to do it. As I have repeatedly expressed in this blog, Alexander's Discovery is one of the most underrated, scientific breakthroughs in human history. It ranks with our greatest achievements in it's capacity to change our daily life. It is up there with the discoveries of Einstein and the advent of the internet. It will change industries, it will revolutionize our understanding, treatment and development of movement sequences. It dwarfs anything currently known or discovered, regardless of how mind blowing that might seem. It is that way because it belongs to a category of break-through that lacks a common definition or understanding. Like the internet itself – it is a mysterious new phenomena in human life. It's a download for the human operating system. It exists in a category which requires a new kind of scientific method to investigate it's existence. It is the logical outcome of Heisenberg's Principle of Uncertainly, when it first became clear in the material world that the observer changed the observed. The category of Alexander's Discoveries is within a non-material world, which has yet to be deeply investigated or defined through scientific method in a modern Western sense. Our last century delved into the material world, giving us Einstein's theory of relativity, the atom bomb and quantum theory. So what is the scientific enquiry for this new century? I think the essential question is this: is thought, belief, consciousness a material or non-material phenomena? Evidence seems to suggest it is non-material, that it is formless. The Buddhist agree with that definition. They define mind or consciousness as formless, with luminosity and knowing. I won't go further in into that definition, but I will point out what a ground-breaking question it is. If our collective consciousness is non-material, then what are the laws that govern it? How does the material world inter-act with it? How can something be non-material –  how is that even possible? When you really consider this question, it boggles. I get the same feeling when I lie outside at night, look up and ask my Self: what is that? So what's all this got to do with the opening of a tiny little studio stuck between two giant Hollywood studios in the entertainment capital of the world? I believe BodyChance represents a new stage of development of the profession. BodyChance is breaking out of the individualistic mode that has dominated the dissemination of Alexander's Discoveries over the last century, and is a leading edge developer of team effort: it is the advent of "corporate" Alexander Technique. No wonder there are some people working hard to disable us – corporate America does not have a great reputation. However, it won't work, their efforts are futile. What you will witness over the next 20 years is the Alexander Technique arriving as a viable profession. It is about to move from an infant stage to it's early childhood. It's fantastic to consider that this work has been in an infancy stage for 119 years! This is a glacial child of human history, a movement that cannot be seen as it occurs. Why I am so confident that this is what we are witness to? Because of the money. Try this exercise tonight – go online and type in something like: "How much does back pain cost the economy every year?" It may take you a few minutes to find a realistic number, but you will find it you because it is a big number that worries a lot of people. Then do this: take that number, and multiply it by .86. Why .86? Because the 5 year, million pound study that was published in the British Medical Journal in August 2008, showed that the 26 lessons in the Alexander Technique cured 86% of 144 chronic back pain sufferers, a year after their lessons had stopped. OK, so you've multiplied the cost of back pain in your area by .86 and come to your number… How big is that number? That's the figure that Alexander's Discoveries will save the economy in one year. It's a massive, mind boggling number. And it's only one country. Now do the same for similarly related pain conditions, and you're starting to get the picture of what an extraordinary, societal tsunami Alexander's Discoveries will turn out to be.
