Constructive Conscious Thinking (CCC)
Nov 28, 2021“Jerry, I’m giving up drinking.”
“Great dad.”
He was 81 at the time. Dad was a founding member of AA in Australia, as well as a great drinking buddy of Peter Finch – the first Australian actor to win an Oscar for his brilliant performance in Sidney Lumet’s Network. Peter and Dad once turned up drunk at the front door of his Kings Cross appartment and mum was furious. She told them to wait, got a bucket of water and threw it over both of them. She slammed the door in their face, they turned around roaring with laughter – it was raining buckets anyway – and headed out again looking for another a drink.
Dad had a long history, but he never gave up.
I like to think, that like dad, I never give up.
And Constructive Conscious Thinking is the tool I use.
CCC is not something Alexander invented – it emerges out of the unwritten history of humanity. FM was unique in that he applied CCC to his discovery – using CCC to restore the optimization of our chordatian health-calibrating head/spinal movement.
This process of CCC has fascinated me since dad first introduced me to Alexander's discovery when I was 14. Another name for it is Scientific Method – the systematic gathering of information to form an idea based upon connected patterns of behaviour.
My Daily – this email – is a good example.
These days it splutters along according to my motivation. My motivation relies upon my conception of me. And that conception relies on my awareness and analysis of many different objects of attention: mental constructs, surrounding environment, inter-relational communication. Today’s identity emerges from juggling these into a coherent whole: I become the person who writes a Daily or I become the person who doesn’t care and watches Netflix instead.
Yeah, my morning can go like that.
Anyway, this is probably one of those emails that some of my readers tell me: “I have no idea what you are talking about.”
I will try to do better explaining it in August at the Alexander Congress in Berlin.
