Day Twenty-Nine – Celebrity

Oct 04, 2013

Are you a celebrity? Your dog thinks so; your cat isn’t so sure. Your children – if they are pre-adolescent – definitely think you are. Grace, at aged 10, shared with me the bitter disillusionment she went through “when I was young” the time I admitted I did not know the answer… “But I thought you knew everything!” She was five at the time. Once you are a celebrity, people confer upon you abilities you have not acquired. Because you are so successful at one thing you do, people believe you must know a lot about other things too. Suddenly there’s Dr. Kildare from television selling you a coffee substitute. He’s an actor for heaven’s sake – everyone knows that! So how come he is wearing a white coat and telling me to buy this on television? I am supposed to believe that?!? Yes, people do. Because he is a celebrity. Your Task – Leverage Your Celebrity Status into Gaining More Students How Do You Become A Celebrity In Your Niche?

It is easy to do. Start by being a presence in your niche. Write your blog, comment on other blogs, appear at Conferences, give talks, write magazine articles, say controversial things, build a list of followers and keep at this every day until you reach the point of being known by people in your niche. When they talk about you with each other (and you’re not around), then you are a celebrity to them. Once that happens, the Richter scale kicks in. The Richter scale increases by a 10 fold magnitude each time you move up one point. So an earthquake of 7.1 is 10 times more violent than one measuring 7.0, whereas 8.0 is 100 times more violent. The power of celebrity increases with this same magnitudinal progression. Progression is slight initially, but once you reach a certain threshold, your presence increases rapidly. And with that celebrity status: your authority increases; your ability to earn increases; your choices increase. You arrive at a place of ease. This is a distant aim for many of you, and a growing reality for others. The local town girl, or the niche focused teacher, are both candidates for celebrity. Longer term, this is what you want to see in your vision. See your Self as famous – at least amoung a select group of people. Your mission (should you choose to accept it) is to vision your Self as a celebrity in the niche market (or amongst your avatar) you are targeting: how will you get there? What kind of personality traits will you cultivate publically? What is your core message?
