DeepThinking - Jewels

Aug 27, 2014

Realizations are like jewels - precious things, and too few of them. But a realization is much, much more. It is abundant energy: it is a force to move you from apathy and emptiness to action and joy. Why so few? Why so rare? We live too much thinking: “I know.” Speaking for me, I am always right. I always know. I am built that way - it is biological as much as it is psychological. We have our right, and we stick to it. Alexander hit upon that - it was his breakthrough discovery, and the most misunderstood and abused. Assurance, confidence, the ability to act - it arises from our belief in the right thing. It’s a supportive mechanism which, if disassembled indelicately, can plunge us into despair and depression. Suicide, isolation, alienation - we risk them all when we stop believing our right. Yet the belief of right itself is questionable. It is better not to believe, but that’s impossible. It’s against nature. An artist often doubts: this is healthy when it brings realizations. It is unhealthy when it engenders self-hate. Delusional thinking is how we manage - we live and die by the same sword. Realization is when the sword becomes unnecessary: when it stops being all about protecting me, and starts to become all about loving you; when love replaces fear and life becomes joy. Like glistening jewels, set on the sand of a Middle Eastern desert at sunset.
