DeepThinking - Less is More
Sep 08, 2014Less is more: this is an expression that every Alexander Technique teacher is comfortable with. We understand it. Dammit - we teach it! And yet, today I wonder if I have really even begun to grasp how profound and society-changing this concept can be? I still have a long way to go - how about you? What is fascinating to me is my recent discovery of the applications of the 80|20 Principle. Here too you come across the same expression: less is more. Here too you meet the idea that we are doing a whole lot more than we need to do, in order to achieve what we want. Here too the key is recognition cognition, self-awareness, introspection: conscious, constructive thinking. Which means making a new plan, then having the guts to follow your new meanswhereby plan, when it appears to be contrary to everything you feel is right. 80|20 Principle is a revolutionary concept that has had a deep influence on the progression of many things, yet it's role is not widely recognised or acknowledged. Sound familiar? These days, using the 80|20 Principle and Alexander's Discovery, I am having a lot of fun restructuring everything I thought I was doing.
