DeepThinking - Nobody Didn't Cause Nothing

Sep 15, 2014

I am offering a workshop for Japanese Yoginis today, and it has taken me back into my many years of collecting the tenets of Buddhist philosophy. The most vexing concept of those studies was that all my efforts - to meditate, to practise good morality, to follow precepts - would not be the cause of my enlightenment. Satori - as the Zen masters call it - has no cause. Huh? I do this all this work, and that isn't the cause for me to wake up? What does cause enlightenment then? Nothing. Nothing causes enlightenment because it we already have it. We just don't know it. We are actively ignorant - we work at not knowing. Denial is what holds the mind within it's delusion. Knowing simply arrives when you give up thinking what you believe. Wisdom is infinite, and equally shared by everyone. "All you want is a little bit of nothing," Marj once told us in class, "but the trouble with all you people is that you want something." I still struggle to understand, find my Self arguing back: "But…" However, this radical Buddhist message resonates with Alexander's message: good co-ordination is not something you achieve. It is a birth right you restore. The right thing does itself was Alexander's catch phrase, but most of the time, no really believes that. People work very hard at being good: the right posture, the perfect body, an attractive personality. We keep trying, but that only emphasizes what we already know. (FM) It's 80|20 in reverse: most of our efforts get us very little in return. The real results come from nothing. Wait. The real results don't come from anything. One day, I'll figure it out. Or not.
