DeepThinking - Rejoicing Our Profession

I know you don't know me. That's a comfort. Nothing you say can hurt me, yet I am still curious. Curiosity is the saviour of arrogance. Do I know? Well, let's hear your opinion and there's no risk in that, no pain. Just wonder, and my opportunity to grow. I've been asking a lot of questions about BodyChance these days: how about your practise, your biz? I am discovering questions open doors, so start with the big one. Start with your why. What motivates you to be in this profession? I have been through many whys. When my father died, I lost the urge to go on - there seemed no point to me anymore. I discovered I was still a small boy seeking Dad's love. In many ways I am still seeking, but consciously now, and it's my own love I seek. No-one has that job, because I am the only one who really knows me. When your love comes, it's a bonus, but I know I don't need it. And I love receiving it. I kept asking: why do I want to do this? Then I got to 39 and had another crisis. I thought: I want to direct films, not teach bloody Alexander. I got shortlisted out of 900 applicants for Australia's premier film school in Sydney: 10 of us seeking to fill 4 positions. I lost out, instead happily spending the next year being a full-time organiser the Dalai Lama's Kalachakra event in Sydney. That decided me again. Serving His Holiness showed me that helping others is a path to joy. My life is best used to directly help others in pain. Anything can serve as a vehicle for that, yet Alexander's discovery remains a largely unrecognised gift to humanity. OK, I'll make it my job to get it mainstream. It's a life worth living. Let's make my job to put the work within reach of every person on the planet. It's really both our jobs isn't it? Let's rejoice that we are in such a wonderful profession. And get serious about making it available to others.
