Electrifying an Ectomorph Type for a Successful Corporate Lesson
Mar 15, 2018In London with weekend https://bodychance.mykajabi.com/p/london1803workshop I will be showing you how to create a culture of success in your lessons by identifying the "types" that respond best to your touch.
Writing about NIDA yesterday, reminded me of a funny story from those early times in Australia which speaks to this.
After my own stint as the resident Alexscovery teacher at NIDA, my sister Elizabeth took over. (My family has four ATs in our midst). Liz was also a professional working actor, and soon she was doing a lot more than just Alexander.
She was teaching the actors an application of Alexander in developing character co-ordinations - based on the 9 Enneagram personality types.
One day, the Head of Acting rushed into the her room on his break, demanding to know…
"What are my f**king actors talking about!?"
Apparently, in rehearsals, he had been listening to his actors arguing about their character profiles…
"He's a 4. -- NO! he's an 8. -- Well actually, he could be a 7 with an 8 wing."
And so on…
The poor guy had no idea what was going on!
There are many systems to type personalities - the 9 Enneatypes being the Rolls Royce of them all profiling systems.
In the Corporate world, the Myers Brigg theory holds supreme. Ultimately, you can be reduced to 4 letters - creating 16 different profiles.
I also believe there is a useful Alexander profiling system - based on American psychologist William H. Shelden's projections off embryonic tissue - to produce three different somatotypes:
1. Endomorph somatotype - associated with endoderm tissue (the guts) "rotund"
2. Mesomorph somatotype - associated with mesoderm tissue (the muscles) "muscular"
3. Ectomorph somatotype - associated with ectoderm tissue (the nerves) "skinny"
When you teach Alexander in a corporate setting - look out for the Ectomorphs. They are the live-wire candidates whose movement is usually electrified by the slightest Alexscovery touch.
You want to start your lessons with happy drama - pick the student who nourishes a culture of success in your workshop. Better than doubt and confusion.
There's a lot more I can and will say on my London workshop this weekend:
