Getting Out of Emotional Pain
Aug 05, 2017In any moment, something is driving you.
There's a belief about you, and that gives you your identity.
Shift that, and you're quickly out of ANY emotional pain.

In Sydney today.
Taught at Greg's school, where many of the trainees are reading my Daily.
Hi To You All!
We did three pieces of work, each one naturally illustrating aspects of the Discovery Compass - did they plan it for me? By their courage and willingness to explore - yes.
Confidence in teaching is an issue that came up. For trainees, and for teachers too as it turns out. What happens to you when you have "no confidence"?
Make a list: co-ordination issues, mental stress, emotional states.
Go on - analyse the conditions of use present. …
(Are you doing it?)
Now look at your list…
Would you have confidence in you, if that is what you saw you doing?
Weird question I know - it's about jumping up to where the eagles live, and see you being you, and asking:
"When I believe I have no confidence, am I in a state of being where I can be confident?"
It's the joke of God, the joke of Nature, the trick of being. We are whatever we say we are in the moment of saying it. There is never anything wrong you with, other that what you claim. Even pain is not what is wrong with you - it is what you need to be listening to right now.
I should be in pain if I keep doing what I am doing - haven't you seen that when looking at students? How obvious it is to you? Then why wouldn't that be true for you too?
The real key - as Emeritus Professor Roberts declares in the Preface to his Understanding Balance - is recognition. Of what you are doing and thinking, of how that is shaping the experience you are having. Of identifying what gets it all started IN YOU.
A brick falls on your head - is your life still wonderful?
It's a way of living that will challenge you at every step.
It needs practise. It needs understanding.
