Going to Prison (for telling the truth)
Mar 03, 2019Historically, many truth speakers end up in prison. Or worse.
Galileo support Copernicanism – jettisoning the Aristotelian view that all the heavens revolved around geocentric mother earth.
In the 17th century, community-based courts were merrily burning witches by the dozen every week. What chance did Galileo have? However - contrary to popular belief - the priests of the Inquisition were more restrained so – with a forced recant of his truth-saying ways – Galileo spent the rest of his days under house arrest.
What was his heresy? The truth – as we know it now.
You could also end up arrested and condemned for speaking the truth. What truth?
All you need to do is republish some of Alexander's claims for the benefits of his work. Do that, and your website may be pulled down, your reputation scarred and a lot of people wondering why you claimed those things.
What if you claimed that studying Alexander's discovery – with you - would bring about all these benefits?
- improve your thinking
- reduce and combat disease
- turn around depression
- lessen mental stress
- unleash more energy
- have a better sleep
- enhance sex
AND YET…
All these are claimed as benefits from practising regular exercise !!!
And no-one is going to jail or saying it is not true. Alexander's discovery is intimately associated with exercise.
Because the essence of exercise is movement. And the essence of Alexander's discovery is how we do that movement. Alexander's claims are not so fantastic after all.
You – as a homo sapien - are a member of the 530 million-year-old Chordate Phylum. Every Chordate his a brain and a nerve chord - they are there to guide your movement. You are fundamentally designed to move.
And exercise hits at the heart of this raison d'être – we live to move. Or we move so we can live. Not being able to produce energy directly from the sun, we Chordates instead move around seeking our nourishment from the plants that produce all protein.
When your student stops moving – sitting at their computer all day – their movement system starts to collapse. Neck pain, back pain, sore eyes, a feeling of exhaustion – all grow with time until they can't function optimally anymore and come looking for you.
Exercise can help to reverse those tendencies by calling upon the movement system to move, more. And yet, there's a more important question that you need to put to your student…
How do you exercise?
Not what they do (i.e. running, Yoga, radio exercises etc.) – I mean how they do what they do. You, of course, must be doing the same.
How do you do your Yoga? How do you run? How do you play your instrument?
Because Alexander claimed that his discovery - of the vitally important head/spinal relationship - will enhance and improve upon everything you do.
Daily life becomes your exercise!
You can reverse the collapse that happens to your students when they exercise less - by helping them assume more conscious responsibility to guide how they do what you do.
And for that – it works better to do different activities every lesson. To let your work plunge into their daily lives, to extract meaning from the most mundane activities.
Alexander's work can bring all the benefits of exercise because it explores a fundamental principle of movement. Your student is a Chordate. 530 million years is long enough. It's time they learnt about their original design – and then…
