How To Jump Into A Brain

Dec 05, 2017

Appealing to students involves jumping into their brain.

Do you know how your student behaves?

Musicians are often detailed, technical and precise.

Yoginis are often expansive, emotional and curious.

Students learn differently! Which means they listen differently. Which means you want to communicate with them differently.

And that communication needs to be clear from the start.

It's fascinating as a teacher to notice that an entire body of students often has a proclivity towards a particular learning style. If I knew enough about the Myers-Briggs personality typing, I am sure they could come up with an explanation for this difference.

As a teacher, I adapt my methods and communication style to how they prefer to learn. Some are emotional learners; others are technical learners; others love ideas and concepts to grapple with - whatever turns you on baby.

It's a bit like that. Having them all in one class is a challenge.

Do you want to get detailed and technical with them?

Do you want to go all feely and expansive?

Do you want to challenge them intellectually?

There's a simple way to handle this. And it's part of this month's MasterMinders content. It's simpler than you think, and once you understand how to shape your communication, you get better at attracting the kind of students you want.

Building a list of fans has a lot of moving parts, and that is what we are exploring together in this month's MasterMinders.
