How To Plan A Successful AT Practise

Jan 11, 2016

It’s quiet at home now.

My daughter slops around the house – a teenager in search of a purpose. It can be terrifying. She is sick of Facebooking her life away: she discovered that hours on her iPhone does not lead to happiness. Amazing. Yesterday she told me:

“I really miss school.”

I was simultaneously shocked and delighted. Shocked, because I hated school with every particle I am; delighted, because I saw she craved order. She was wandering, and lost without a plan.

Of course, not all who wander are lost. Between the Xmas and the New Year, your constructive plan may be to wander.

And Yet…

Disquieting thoughts can arise about the year to come: Will I find students? Will I earn enough money? Will I be OK? If you live month by month on a tight budget, these are scary thoughts.

A pupil doesn’t return, worry. A pupil returns, happiness. New pupils come, ecstasy. How can you control that? How can you make it happen the way you want it to happen?

Anxiety – I have discovered – fills the vacuum of empty planning. When you have a purpose as simple as buying food and paying the rent and no clear purpose of how to achieve it – you will feel anxiety, confusion, stress.

Performers know this well.

That’s why they rehearse – when it comes time to perform, they have a perfected plan to follow. So they follow that plan. Do you have a plan for your practise in the coming year? Are you rehearsing it now?

When onstage – whether musician, dancer, singer, actor or even a Yoga Instructor – if you don’t have a clear plan, you will feel unsafe. I see this in students all the time: they tighten when performing so I ask: what is your plan now? Inevitable, they can not answer well. It’s why they tighten.

The same is true about your AT practise.

No planning à no purpose à no ease. It’s simple.

You can react in one of three ways – by getting frantic like a hamster running nowhere within it’s wheel; or by actively ignoring your worries via a party of videos, drinks, shopping, sex, whatever.

Or by going to a third way: making a concrete plan based on universal principles proven to be successful. Back in 2004, when my Japanese AT practise was collapsing, I finally chose the third way. Ignoring it wasn’t an option anymore. I started to study the principles of biz making. I got serious about seeing my Self as a small biz owner.

Every AT teacher is a small biz owner. The odds are stacked against you. You need a plan.

A plan of action is the remedy for anxiety; seeking clarity is the antidote for your confusion.

If you live in or near London, you are in luck.

ATSuccess is holding our first live Symposium in London devoted not to AT, but to AT teachers who seek students to attend their groups and stay.

The ATSuccess plan starts with integrating group teaching into your practise. Why?

Because you can increase your income, take some time off teaching private lessons and use your new freedom to work on your practise! Often, at the end of a teaching day, you are too tired for more work. It doesn't have to be like that.

I will be offering a one day workshop to show you how.

Email me if you want to ask something, why not?

Consider the Premier option. This involves working with you before the workshop. You can start this week! Whenever you like. Premier members start by Skyping with ATSuccess Director Peter Jacobson ASAP. We’re is not just offering you a one day workshop, we’re offering you a plan. This is a comprehensive process to get you started on making this a great year for your practise.

More students, more teaching challenges and growth, more security.

What better investment is there?

Give your Self this support to increase your income. The best remedy for any anxieties you may feel is to do something: make a plan. Commit your Self to action. The simplest and surest plan to to seek help from people who have done it. I built a thriving school of 150 trainees in Japan. I have helped over 100 AT teachers worldwide to build their practises. I know my stuff.

This January, in London, you can join my ATSuccess Symposium on Building A Successful Practise.

How about taking your practise to a whole new level?

Read about our whole program, including my one day 4-Person Intensive. One place is already booked, I have only three left. Read more about that here.

And stay tuned. I will be writing about how you fill your groups, how you attract people to your classes…

How you can make 2016 the year you turned it all around!
