How to Train Teachers
Jul 21, 2022Anyone watching my Facebook feed knows I’m having a ball in London at the moment.
I had My Fair Lady at the Coliseum last night, Sebilious at the Royal Albert Hall on Thursday, and the Fashion Freak Show at the Roundhouse on Friday.
Sorry to boast, but can you blame me?
One of the other delights of being in London - as opposed to my home in Japan - is the opportunity to discuss the work with many different teachers. How hungry I am for English chatter!
One teacher I met kindly invited me to his garden party in one of the large, private gardens that punctuate Central London. There I met several pupils of his that had become friends - one told me she had been having lessons for 25 years! Another for 6 years. When I asked - “Why didn’t you train if you love it that much?” - they replied - “Oh, I only wanted to go to Nicholas. Besides, it’s convenient.”
That set me thinking in a whole new direction. I started to wonder:
How many other teachers have students who have been coming for years?
Nicholas told me that he had become good friends with many of them. They go out on social occasions and, well, come to his joyful garden parties! I’m guessing many other teachers have made friends this way, just as Directors of Training make friends with their trainees as they become teachers.
If you put your hand up for that, please do me a kindness and reply with the number of pupils you have that have been coming for 3+ years.
Can you do that now? Just hit reply and add a number.
I’ll be eagerly waiting…
It’s all part of a fact-finding mission for one of my presentations at the Congress:
