How To Win Over A Group of German Politicians

Imagine this: a room full of impatient German politicians & bureaucrats.

(Probably exhausting their time fussing over GDPR, poor sods.)

Anyway Possum - how well could YOU convince them to take up Alexander's discovery?

One of my ATSuccess members brought this very problem to one of our 6 coaching sessions this month. She had miraculously managed to convince a Mayor of a small town to gather together 18 heads of department - to be sold on Alexander's discovery.

Which means they needed to be sold on why THEY needed HER.

She had 30 minutes to convince them.

Needless to say, that was a fascinating coaching call.

How do you present Alexander's discovery to a bunch of politicians who probably don't want to be there anyway; but are scared of offending the Mayor?

What did she do?

Certainly, a chalk and talk won't work.

At least, not by itself. Nor will a PowerPoint presentation really engage them. How many of those have they seen in the past? And getting your hands on 18 people in 30 minutes? Forget that too.

What she needed to do - as we discussed in the session - is surprise them. Shock them even. And from that point, slowly build a culture of success in the room.

It is so easy for one grandstanding sceptic to take the floor; then carry the room. End of game. Therefore, you must never, NEVER let that happen. It's your show, your lines, your plan. Make sure you have that plan, then stick to script, make them play their roles, and bring it to the conclusion you want.

In a situation like that, improvising is too dangerous. You want to make sure you arrive at the outcome you intended. We spent a lot of time adding each element and crafting her plan to get their consent to move to the next stage.

And she got their consent. The Mayor ended up looking GOOD.

The Department heads gave him an authentic green light. German democracy at work, with a little help from ATSuccess.
