How We Got Dirty Together

Mar 25, 2020

Not dirty how you think…

(I mean, really!)

Dirty in the sense of muddy, cluttered, confused.

This is the third of Chancer’s series on my ballet dancer (if you are following) and Chancer’s realisation – AGAIN – of how vital an excellent finish is in the art of teaching.

(And the art of anything – look how Game of Thrones was sullied for so many people with Daenerys finally coming back to Westeros and then being killed by Jon Snow! What???!!)

Any of you attempting to work online need to avoid making bad endings.

Finish well instead. Look for that moment.

Otherwise, all your student will remember is the bad.

Finish well, then underline, emphasis and celebrate – and do that with everything in your life, with every person in your life, with every online lesson you give.

Cherish any moment of success like expensive Swiss chocolate.

You can easily brush past this moment, moving on to your new challenge or new goal. Instead of taking time to celebrate, you risk the anxiety of failure by aiming too high too quickly.

This is what happened to us in our ballet turn lesson.

Having brushed past the moment of success, the rest of the lesson became a desperate attempt to return to the past. Of course, I am not so stupid to intend to do that – I see it now in retrospect.

Our hunger for success sullies the present.

This hunger stains the purity of a moment by thrusting it under a filter of the past.

One way you stay in the present is by describing what is happening to you as it is happening. It’s a great exercise and worth experimenting.

At a concrete level, your action is happening by joints, muscle actions and intentional movements. It’s a bodily awareness language we are not taught at school, and yet it is a language which can help us:

- speed up our ability to acquire new levels of skill
- remedy pain and discomfort through understanding their cause
- slowly increase our total sense of well-being as we age

Alexander was big on the last one of my list above. His final book – The Universal Constant of Living – was a simple premise: we either integrate and improve or we disintegrate and get worse. There is no standing in one place; you are going one way or the other.

And that indicating factor that illustrates which direction you are heading in is your head’s relation to your spinal complex, and all that flows from there...

It takes a clear understanding of functional anatomy to expand upon this bodily awareness, and BodyThinking Online offers that knowledge.

BodyThinking Online will take you a few months to absorb, and a lifetime to savour. Once you purchase it, you have it for life. Yes, you can download all the videos and keep them on your personal computer.

Once you buy it, you own it forever.

I spent decades on this course – first in my learning, then conceiving it, planning it, teaching it and finally composing the 66 videos that deliver a lifetime’s understanding of the movements of you.

Anyone involved in precise movement systems can benefit from improved skill acquisition. And enhance your ability to analyse the movements of others.

Buy the course, and you can join me in coaching sessions on any question you have. My offer of BodyThinking Online includes three coaching sessions – and access to past sessions -  in ATSuccess Online.

Instead of the $1,000 price tag of the past, just $140 today gets you started. More details of my offer on this page...
