It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World

Nov 30, 2019

And you need to stay sane!

How do you do that?

I was online watching one of my mentors – the insightful Donald Miller – when he declared something like:

"If you are watching this, you are a driven person. You are. Not everyone around you is driven, but if you're taking the time to watch this, you are."

Well, Possum – if you're reading this, and reading it most days – you are driven too.

Being driven is one way to stay sane.

My guess is that a lot of you reading this in different kinds of part-time employment, managing your lifestyle and earning money in different ways. You are on the constant lookout to improve your situation. You may work in a regular job, but seek to make a difference; or have an outside interest – a hobby – that helps you stay sane. That's your driven Self then.

These are the kind of people you will meet at Alexander groups. People who are taking their lives into their own hands. It might sound like Alexander's Discovery is a "Magic Pill"…

It's not. There is no such thing.

Before you get too excited about the beautiful things Alexander's Discovery can do - to bring more sanity into your life - let me first remind you all of some "downsides" to studying the work.

While Alexander's Discovery works fast – you can get students to lose their discomfort in just a few minutes – it still takes time for them to integrate into your behaviour. So you need to have patience. For some people (everyone is different) it can take months, even years to integrate your new behaviour.

Secondly, when you say that Alexander is not about "positions", your students may be tempted to go on slumping in front of their computers, and the Alexander work will somehow magically make them better.

We all know – it is not like that!

You cannot carry on pressing down on your spine while you rant with your friends about your terrible situation and think you're ok because you know about primary control. You still need to think constructively about your co-ordination and behaviour, MOST OF THE TIME.

Finally, there is one small "side effort" that you should be aware of.

When students first start, you may notice that they feel tired and sleep a lot more than usual. This is a perfectly natural response, and a good sign – their autonomic nervous system is responding to your suggestions by taking an opportunity to catch up on processes necessary for long-term health. It's no big deal, and usually only happens to people who are incredibly stressed, and are walking around like an accident waiting to happen.

(Not everyone has this side effect)

Whatever the case, Alexander's Discovery is used by movie stars, by the Israeli Air Force and some of the smartest thinking people of the last century. BodyChance teachers have taught at Gaidai University in Tokyo, and teachers also work today at Julliard in New York and Royal College of Music in London; it has even used on horses and their riders by the German Olympic Equestrian Team.

If you can live with these "drawbacks" – and are driven as I said before – then BodyThinking Online may be the next step in your pursuit of excellence. I've got a great offer on right now – purchase BodyThinking Online to continue to be sane in this Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World.

As well as being 30% off the usual price, it includes three coaching sessions with me – live and online – which are worth almost as much again. It's a great deal, and I won't be offering it again soon.

If you qualify, and don't mind the drawbacks, mouse over to the link below and read up more about how my course (and coaching) can accelerate your hopes and aspirations as a guide for others.
