It's a Practice, Not Just a Business
Dec 24, 2017From Jacek Kaleta in Poland comes an interesting observation from my last Daily:

It's interesting you used the phrase "build your practice".
It resonates with me more than business.
I'd like my work as a teacher to be an extension of my practice that includes Alexander's principles, but also other disciplines.
Thanks for your blog
All the best

Yes, I chose that word "practice" deliberately.
Your work as an Alexscovery teacher is itself your practice. Getting people to pay for you is a bonus: a wise way to self-sustain your practice.
It's put us in a rare category - people who are paid to get better at helping others. You could say that we are like missionaries, taking the Word of Alexander to the masses. Usually, this is "volunteer" work - funded by altruistic souls with lots of money.
Most Alexscovery teachers have little money. And no sponsors.
The luckier ones might be in a relationship with a partner who is willing to supplement their income by providing the big pieces of modern life: house, car, holiday and savings.
And yet, some teachers find a way to be that person in their own right. The Breadwinners. Teachers who can - and do - make an income to sustain an independent life.
I am one of those teachers - and have been since the day I qualified 37 years ago. My practice has also extended into being a business. It will with everyone. Alexander's discovery requires you to gather many other skills in pursuit of your "practice".
It's not enough to know how to teach - these days you need supplementary skills: like dealing with Facebook; making flyers, websites and landing pages; learning how to communicate to others in a way that attracts them to your lesson.
All part of your mission.
Rossella Buono is a teacher in this class. She did the sensible thing and became a master of one, not a jack-of-all-trades. Her mastery was in manipulating Facebook Events - with timed posts, silly pictures, paid ads, well-designed titles and useful information.
And a willingness to fail, and move on.
You can use her methods to do what she did - build a healthy practice: one that gives you the joy of doing what you want to be doing, and improving your Self in the process.
This month she will show you how she did that. I will be working with you to show how you apply these methods to your unique practice.
Come along for the ride, and make 2018 start with success.
