It's Not for Me; Never for Me.

I cured my desire to answer the phone by living in Japan.

It worked like this:

- the phone would ring

- I would rush to it

- a Japanese would speak

After a few months of this, I stopped rushing.

Let the damn thing ring, I thought, it's never for me.

The first time I realised this, I nearly cried. OMG - that's right. No-one rings me. And I don't have anyone I can ring here either. Just two babies and a wife - that was my personal life.

Alexander teachers are often lonely.

You are passionate about a Profession which has roughly zero recognition, and even less respect. You constantly live with underachievement.

It's lonely because - unless you know a teacher or devotee - others don't get it.

It's lonely because - teachers rarely work in teams; you live as a lone wolf.

It's lonely because - someone thinks your version of AT is crappy, don't they?

It's lonely because - if teachers live nearby, they often end up as competition.

Many teachers have overcome this isolation by forming local, regional groups. This healthy way has happened in Oxford, London, Boston and a few other places. But not many. That I know of.

And then there's online - chat in Facebook, watch the videos, debate a point. It's still hard to go deep, to get soul nourishment. Facebook doesn't have much of that.
