M01.24 Ready-Fire-Aim: The Song of Something!
Jun 03, 2013Michael Masterson wrote a wonderful book Ready-Fire-Aim, and it is a must read for anyone building a business. Long before I read his book though, I had discovered the advantages of this way of doing business. A variation, based on the will-do way of thinking is this: "It's easier to ask forgiveness than it is to get permission." Either way, you are going ahead with your plans, even if things are not perfect. Take this website for example. First – I decided I needed to start a daily blog. Did I know that would evolve into a new community where we could more easily identify and talk with each other? Of course not! All I knew is that I had to do "something". I was stuck in Japan and I wanted to get out. My "ready" was everything I had done in Japan. My "fire" was to start writing a blog. If you notice I started that on September 26th, 2012 and I can almost count on my hands the number of days that I missed blogging. My "aiming" started after I began writing the blog. When I started, had I conceived my 12 Point Plan to Build an AT Biz? No. When I started, did I plan to build a membership website? No! When I started, did I know I would be creating a new studio in LA? Absolutely Not! Get the idea? When you are building a business, one of the truly critical things to know is that, every day, you are doing something. You'll make mistakes, sure you will – but we learn through doing. We learn through having experiences. This must be logical to an Alexander Technique teacher. So what will you do today? And every day, have one thing... End all those "when I have…(fill the gap)" sentences by simply choosing something to do and doing it. Are you stuck on thinking you have to know where you are definitively going you start anything? In a big general sense you need to know, but you already do, right? You want to make more money; you want to have a thriving practice: that's all you need to know now. The rest will come from experience. ***
Updates to Website
Here I am, on the very last day of May, fulfilling on my promises to you. This is the "aim" part that I am finally getting to! 1. For Everyone I have a directory of your 12 Point Plans. Go and look – see if your plan is there or not? There are now over a 100 of these plans to view. Look at what other teachers are doing – aren't you curious? Remember, these are confidential and only for your personal reading use... I did mine really quickly just to see if I could - so even I have a cringe factor when I think of you reading it. But who cares? Live a little recklessly... http://atsuccess.com/12-point-plan-directory 2. For Basic Full members (Note: Lite Members do not have access to these materials) I have just uploaded the new worksheets for Niche. These are the worksheets I use with students on CareerThinking in Japan. Follow them and you will get a much deeper sense of what Step 2 of my 12 Step Plan is all about. You can download these from here: http://atsuccess.com/worksheets-directory If you haven't already, listen to my audio about this month's topic… http://atsuccess.com/audio-directory Look out for the next audio on Step 2 – I will be putting it up in June. Did you notice that I have put up an audio from my book entitled "Working on Your Self Alone"? You will find it in the same Audio directory shown above. 3. For Pro Members (Note: Basic Full Members do not have access to these materials) I have just made available a video of Cathy Madden teaching groups in Japan. Cathy travels the world modeling how to work in groups – watch this video to get ideas for how you can lead your own groups. It's a 2.5 hour class, and I will be posting materials like this every month. Find that in this directory: http://atsuccess.com/skype-directory I send out an email yesterday announcing the two dates that I will be available to Skype with you on any questions. This is a chance to benefit from my specific advice based on your personal situation. Sometimes going from the abstract to the specific is a step that needs a little input to get clear about. You can email questions, but make sure you are available: June 4th, 7am Tokyo time June 20th, 7am Tokyo time Use this website to find out your local time: http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/meeting.html There's more to on this website than I've listed here – I just wanted you to be alert to richness of the materials that I am slowly gathering online for you to pursue. My job? Helping you to help your Self.
