Mission Status
May 18, 2017I’m an all-in guy.
I beat my Self up about it. I keep asking me:
“What don’t you network? Why don’t you have a wide group of associates and friends that you consult with, banter, have fun and listen?”
I look at other successful people and they seem to be doing that. I might appear to be doing that too, but anyone who gets close quickly realizes I don’t. I don’t associate much outside my closest collegues, and those who have a mentor or student relationship.
I’m an all-in guy. I am coming to understand that.
Look at BodyChance. The people I talk with most are, obviously, my full-time staff and Joint Venture partners. Leave that group, and you go off my radar. People have felt abandoned by me in the past – as though I discarded them. I’ve been told that more than once.
I don't know how to respond to this phenomenon of me.
Of course, I appreciate and admire those that live outside my mission circle. I am always willing to be available, to talk, advise, discuss proposals, do deals, banter or whatever. However, I don’t pursue that. You approach me, I’m open.
You don’t, it’s a long time between calls.
When you have a big mission, there’s no time for halves.
At BodyChance, for a long, long time we were a company of halves. People taught for us, and they were not part of the mission. They liked teaching, and being part of an exciting game.
Slowly, an “us” and “them” culture developed, within the company itself. The “us” people were totally committed to the vision. The “them” people had other fish to fry. It didn’t work.
So I changed that. I recognised that all-in also gives you all-out. People lost their work with us. It was a bloody time, and it helped to make BodyChance stronger.
Your Vision requires people who are all-in.
