My AT Practice Is Shrinking – What Do I Do Now?
Aug 14, 2016I know what it feels like to be awake in a nightmare.
Lying in bed, looking into the dark.
Frightened. Wondering. Uncertain.
What is going to happen to me?
Will I make the rent?
Will we be OK?
Can I keep living here?
Are you a teacher who is finding your practise shrinking? Or the influx of new students has slowed down, and you wonder how secure we are?
You are right to be concerned. We are in a new digital world.
A world full of information and countless possibilities. Once Alexander's discovery felt unique, different – now there are dozens of methodologies, with clever names, that sound exactly the same.
How can you be heard above the din?
In your heart you know that Alexander's discovery is different: unique, profound, effective.
You know how much it can help. And yet… your efforts to convince others seems to fall on deaf ears.
How can you attract more students?
I have lived through this. I am still living through this. Today – even in Japan – I keep wondering how can I evolve? I am sure you wonder the same: you have more bills to pay, your costs keep piling up and you have less students than you want.
The first step in this process is to turnaround from your nightmare.
Instead of falling into that dark place, turnaround and start moving towards your dream. Of course to do that, you need a plan. You need a positive, constructive direction that will support you doing what you want to do.
In an Alexander lesson, you face the same choice. Trying to deal with pain in the wrist is pointless without a holistic plan to follow.
Life is simply an iteration of this same Alexander process you know so well.
When you have an Alexander lesson you are called upon to innovate. You look for a clear intention, and gather information about the conditions of use present. Just as Alexander did, you struggle to recognise what you are doing.
As you recognise what you are doing, it opens a door to acting differently.
This process gradually brings you to the threshold of an enlightening and happy experience – something totally new from what preceded it. This is a universal process – not one that is exclusively Alexander. As an student of Alexander's discovery, you have practised moving through these stages. This leaves you well equipped to deal effectively with the challenge of your shrinking practise.
How do you apply your Alexander work to the process of building your practise?
Re-directing a business means navigating through a different kind of territory. Instead of head/spin/limb co-ordination, you are learning to co-ordinate many different aspects of your business, including you!
In ATSuccess we have defined those steps – there are 12 – and our program systematically shows you how (and when) to apply proven technologies of business into the art of attracting students who love your work.

Teachers have joined us before and had great success:
“Since qualifying 18 years ago, I have come to appreciate how much Alexander Technique is struggling in this modern world when there are so many other modalities competing for the same audience. If you want to reach ordinary people to teach Alexander Technique there is no better way than through the modern digital world.
Because I am digitally challenged, ATS is the best means-whereby I know of to get there. I really appreciate the well laid out lessons, videos, webinars, group teaching, support and more that Jeremy and Peter provide with their programme. And it is also so great to be part of the caring sharing community.”

These 3 x free webinars will be partly informational, partly practical – you have time to ask any questions you have. While fear of the future may kick you into action, it cannot generate a constructive plan. You need more. Just as pain motivates your students to come to lessons, success depends upon learning a new way to act.
You need more than fear. You need a positive, constructive plan of action. This will be the focus of our free webinars this month.
