One Very Good Reason Not to Trust Your Self

She said:

"I don't trust my Self."

I am in Osaka, watching one of my trainees do some practice teaching in class.

Touch communication is an essential tool of every Alexscovery Teacher (AT). I see her moving her hands toward her student, but failing to make contact. What is she doing, I wondered, some kind of aura work? !

Which is why I asked her…

Why don't you make contact with your hands?

"I don't trust my Self."

You don't trust your Self to do what? I asked.

"To convey what I want with my hands."

Who do you think you are trusting in? I asked.

"My Self" she answered.

NO.

[Surprised look, not only her - but from other members of my class in Osaka this Sunday. A few of them suddenly perked up: oh, Jeremy's about to rant AGAIN…]

You are trusting the work, I told her, and that's got nothing to do with you. If you think it's all down to you - when you touch another person - you are letting your ego get the better of you.

[Silence. Puzzled looks. OK, I think, I'd better say more…]

Alexander's discovery is not about YOU.

Alexander's discovery is not about ME.

So who's left? Who do you blame for an earthquake?

Whatever THAT is, we trust to THAT. Not YOU, not ME - THAT.

When I use my hands to communicate, I trust the insight, not my ego. When it doesn't work properly - and I trust Alexander's discovery - then I can find a reason why it isn't working. Every time. 100%.

TRUST IN THAT.

Now doubt, self-hate and distrust of Self, is replaced with curiosity, exploration and adventure into a truth of living.

Misplaced trust is as harmful as no trust at all.
