Only Feeling & Moving Are Bad For Your Health
Dec 25, 2019"I forgot to think!"
How many times have you thought that?
It's an interesting expression because it holds a profound message on how to stay healthy.
However, before I get on to that, let me warn you of something:
This. Is. Not An. Easy. Thing. To. Understand.
If you want simple, pat-you-on-the-back advice, I am the wrong person to read.
I love people who welcome deep-thinking; people who reflect on their behaviour to find ways to develop. In other words, people who can think! Unless you can tick those boxes, you're wasting my time reading me. And I also doubt you will reach the end of this email, forget about even having an inkling of what I am writing about. Sorry Possum, but my next few emails are going to stretch your brain cells and produce a few new ones. It'll be worth it, but I expect a few people to unsubscribe to which my reply is: good riddance!
How I am describing thinking today is unlike most of what you have read in other places.
(Unless – like me – you are into the latest brain science, and love a good neurophysiological read.)
Here's today's headline, and the subject of my next few emails…
To Think Is How You Restore Health To Your Neuro-Physiological Self.
It is the first, middle and last thing you do – Executive Brains lead to super-performance.
Alexander's 2nd discovery lies in this domain. FM figured out the role of executive thinking in recalibrating your sensory mechanism. He explained it backwards:
"Sensory appreciation conditions conception -- you can't know a thing by an instrument that is wrong."
Which means that to change feelings, it won't work to use feelings.
Feelings are sensations you are experiencing in your Self. They run the range from the physically orientated - light, heavy, free, tense – through to the emotional – joy, depression, irritation, bliss.
You have no direct control over these sensations, but that doesn't stop anyone from trying.
Artists of every type devastate their performances by trying to feel the emotions they expect themselves to feel. Even people who want to sympathize with another person say "I feel your pain" - which is a load of malarkey because you can only feel your pain, despite what you imagine.
But the worst of it comes whenever you try to use direct control of feeling (which you don't have) to feel some physical sensation in your body.
Or more commonly - to try NOT to have an uncomfortable physical feeling.
When has that ever worked? Yet students try it all the time.
(For that matter, so still do a lot of teachers. I can’t say I really understood what I am trying to write about here until I had been teaching more than 10 years! But then, no-one really taught me this until I met my mentor Marj.)
Those who have experienced Alexander's discovery know all about: "Think, don't feel."
The expressions of confusion and wonder from the faces of new students upon hearing this, only serve as evidence for how ahead of time old FM was.
Brain science is still catching up with his empirical discoveries, and they have decades to go.
When you understand how fundamental thinking is to establish a new, conscious direction in your behaviour, you will immediately feel hunger for a system of thinking to use.
Creeds of all kinds try to satisfy that need, but none that I know meeting the criteria of neuro-muscular direction.
Changing behaviour means changing how muscles behave with each other – there is no way around that. An intelligent system can indirectly cause a systemic reorganization, but there is no guarantee that it will work.
You need to know in more detail what kind of systemic reorganization you want to ask for in the way you coordinate what you do.
Your Executive brain will dramatically increase its effectiveness in supporting a change of behaviour in your Self or others when you train that ability.
BodyThinking Online offers you that training. It is a total, muscle-deep exploration of what efficiency and healthy behaviour look like, how to implement it, and the health and teaching benefits that start accruing when you do. You can start this process by carving out a chunk of time and serving up to your Executive brain a feast of ideas and practices that will start improving your health immediately, and for decades to come.
And render you far more effective at what you do.
I've put together an exceptional starting package – including live, personal training. The offer closes on December 31st; no one can buy it after that.
Here is the information about it - and a link to buy:
