Only the Paranoid Survive

There was a slow death of my school back in the naughts.

From a great start - 12 passionate, committed Japanese signing on for a full-time four year training - things slowly started to dwindle.

Not that I noticed at first. Most teachers don't.

Things slow down, income is still OK, and then that becomes the new norm. You adjust. Then, a little while later, same thing happens. Oh, you think. OK. A bit of worry, but nice to have some time off. Let's go to the movies instead. ….

And then it slows down again. Eventually, you wake up in the middle of the night with the heebie-jeebies…

Is that happening to your practise? Or could it?

It's a question that ex-Intel CEO Andy Grove recommends you keep in mind. As he put it:

"Only the paranoid survive."

In fact, our brain is wired that way. Look for the predator, learn to survive. The primary skill worth having is to live creatively; to be willing to change. That's the wonderful nature of the work you are in - it trains you to adapt.

Can you adapt?

Many teachers and trainees join ATSuccess because they recognise the need to adapt. There's no choice - it's do something about your practise, or sign up with Uber and drive cars the rest of your day.

Your Alexander training did not train you to transpose your communication skills into the market. It didn't teach you to how to survive, let alone thrive, in today competitive market for self-help methodologies.

The competition is fierce, nothing like our elders had to face back in the 60/70/80s. Most of them haven't got a clue. Living off the past does not take you into the future.
