Outing My Self to Don Weed

Mar 23, 2017

Talking about secrets.

Last night I “outed” my Self – I exposed my secret life. Did you?

It was invigorating, uplifting and liberating.

The day started with a trainee in tears in my ATSuccess class, sharing her secret fear. She admitted to being frightened of joining Facebook because “I might be attacked”. As she shared her ‘secret’ with us, she got freer.

“Secrets” will cause head/spinal dysfunction.

In yesterday’s Daily, I vowed to pursue this line of enquiry (and encouraged you to do the same. Please send me your story.) The power of a vow lies in its ability to shape events, to produce something from nothing in unpredictable ways.

This is what happened…

Right now, Don Weed is in Japan.

Don is second only to BodyChance in founding one of the largest Alexander training schools in the world. He branded it ITM: Interactive Teaching Method. 50+ trainees. Yuka Sanada – BodyChance’s Director of Training in Osaka – asked me if she could sponsor Don’s visit to Japan. I said yes.

So yesterday afternoon - after writing my email about “secrets” - I am sitting watching Don give “fast lessons” to a group of my eager-thinking 30’s-something male trainees.

It’s then I realise a “secret” I am hiding.

As I watch Don working with my trainees, I understand how much more there is to know about co-ordination. I don’t understand my head/spine/rib cage/ lower back flow, not really. Can I admit that? In front of my trainees?

I want to “out myself” – admit I need help. I don’t. I keep silent.

What is my silence protecting?

Later at dinner, I confess.

I spill my secrets: 40+ years in the work, and I am still unsure how to move myself. Don exudes Chiropractic confidence, his extensive knowledge and experience in the healing arts informing his work in ways I am unable to quickly grasp.

I got my first lesson since Cathy Madden last visited Japan. Wonderful.

When there’s nothing to protect, there is everything to learn.

Don is a big sook just like me. He cried at least 4 times in the space of an afternoon at his workshop. When I see a man cry in public, I can’t help but like the guy. My exposure – I discovered – happens in the context of safety.

And who creates safety? You can. You decide – are you safe or not? I decided I can trust my Self to be my Self with anyone.

Secrets are a form of identity tension.

Keeping a secret is how our ego’s extends its shelf life beyond the use-by date.

Tell a “secret” today and move on to new identity.

To something completely different.

As I keep learning, the best way to bring about transformation is to decide you will create a viable practise. I mean – decide to decide. Take your Self on a trial run by subscribing to my 12 Step seminar on ATSuccess.
