Wouldn't that be cool?
Here are 3 modern-day health obsessions, concerning input and distribution:
- what you eat
(digestive system) - how you breathe
(respiratory system) - fitness
(cardio-vascular system)
What if there was a way to improve ALL THREE SYSTEMS AT ONCE?
Firstly, I wonder if people would be suspicious…
"Oh really? Sounds too good to be true."
…which makes them suspicious that IT IS too good to be true, so then…
Secondly, people's suspicion would nurture distrust.
It works like this: say you felt like eating Thai food.
You come to two restaurants, on opposite sides of the road. On one side of the road there is a Thai restaurant: a Buddha, beautiful smiling woman, a picture of the King. Thai. All Thai.
On the other side of the road is a restaurant that does: Thai, Vietnamese OR Indonesian food. Take your pick. Pictures from all three countries, a muddle of words and recipes.
If you wanted Thai, which restaurant would you pick?
Obvious.
Ready to hear the bad news?
That restaurant you ignored - the one across the road, the one with so many choices - that restaurant is the Alexander Technique restaurant. Yes! THAT'S the too-good-to-be-true restaurant.
And no-one's going.
It might be closing down soon if we don't act decisively.
Alexander's Restaurant is a hopeless muddle of benefits, offering so many different "recipes" that people end up confused, suspicious, so they don't trust us.
Why can't we feature one thing?
What would that one thing be?
Movement.
Co-ordination.
Behaviour.
Use.
No - it's the niche. It's giving them more of what they already want.
If we go the other route, and try to find a simple description of Alexander's discovery, well…
It can be done, but it isn't obviously apparent. Why?
Because the idea itself isn't in the minds of most people. Instead, we rightly emphasise the benefits, but that is ridiculously vast.
- End of chronic pain
- sing better
- run better
- get rid of your asthma
- be happier…
COME ON!
Who's going to believe all that?
You first need have a cogent explanation of why that would work. It comes back to the movement system, the one system that can improve all the others simultaneously. However, the definition of this system is not in currency, it's not in mainstream thinking.
We can say "neuro-muscular system" but then, all the fitness and cardio people will say:
"YEAH, we do that too!"
And we know they don't. Nowhere near it.
But how can we explain that?
How can we show people that the reason they have a brain is so they can move? The reason they eat is so they can move. The reason they breath is so they can move. The reason they see, hear, smell, touch, feel is… so they can move.
Moving trumps everything. It primary, paramount and the linchpin of every system.
However, say that, and people cock their head to one side and say:
"Huh?"
I don't have the answer. Yet. But I got it from a reliable source that "moving" and "movement" is trending on Google. (Thanks Keith)
Maybe we need to offer Natural Paleo Posture?
