Playing Games

Aug 08, 2017

The first time I attended Marj Barstow’s summer camp in Lincoln, Nebraska was 1987. What a festive, wonderful time that was. Many of my dear American friends were encountered there first.

I am not sure how it happened, but I ended up presenting a series of classes on Alexander’s “Evolution of a Technique” – all fun and games. I must have put Don Weed’s nose out of joint, as that was his usual gig during the summer camp.

But this brash, loud Australian didn’t notice, and Don was polite enough to let it fly. Marj used to come along to watch the fun and games. My version of Alexander’s story was all fun and games – over the years I have invented games to help explain some of the finer points.

I also created a soap opera out of it – as Alexander did himself. So many times, during his story he would claim things like…

“If anyone was at an impasse it was I…” and so one.

I managed to squeeze out 5 cliffhangers, and to run it as a series of 6 mini workshops. Diana Bradley and her partner at the time videoed me – later they used it as a template to run a workshop successfully in a local high school. Wow. I was honoured.

This structure still survives in ThinkingBody Online. All the games, activities and cliff hangers are embedded into the online course. Lots of downloads. You could use it as a template for your own workshop – go ahead, take it. The offer ends soon, so jump on board using the discount coupon TB-TESTIMONIAL
