Returning To London in Triumph

Having run away from London in 1980 with a broken heart, now I returned as part of Marjorie Barstow's teaching debut in London & Europe - a visit I engineered with my sister Rosemary, also an Alexscovery teacher. I had scuttled my experiment with tertiary education, and I was all in with Marj and her radical teaching technology.

Of course, for me, it had only been 7 years since I was in London.

Sitting on the plane with Marj, as we travelled to Paris, she turned to me to say:

"Oh my, I haven't been to Paris since the Germans came and went."

My jaw dropped to the floor. What?!

It was easy to forget that Marj was now 87 – she advertised Alexander's Discovery with her sprightly, energetic and ready-to-work approach to living. She once told me:

"I am so old, I shouldn't be living."

In London, Marj was a revolutionary. Her method of teaching was as shocking for them as it had been for me. Of course, she had her detractors.

"All she does is talk about the head and spine" was one comment I heard. 

And I wondered what was wrong with that?
