Science & Scientists of the Alexander Technique

I am currently a student again. Relief.

This time it is with Tim Cacciatore and Patrick Johnson in their “Online workshop about the science of the Alexander Technique.”

Aside from getting cross with them - because they seem to be pretending that they don’t know that Alexander’s Discovery is AMAZING, WORKS and without doubt demonstrates a mechanism yet to be described AT ALL by neuroscientists - they are doing a great job. We are exploring ways to integrate their narrative into Japan, so I am a big supporter of their work, even if I wish they would stop being so correctly doubtful and reticent about Alexander’s Discovery.

I think both of them are a little non-plussed about why I am making such a fuss.

Greg says I’ve got a bee in my bonnet and I am overplaying my hand.

Greg Holdaway – we are doing this course together, he for the 2nd time - is a brilliant Alexscovery teacher tucked away in Australia that most of the Alexander community knows very little about. I’ve written about Greg before – you can read up here:

Greg is also a good friend of David Anderson – another treasure of the Alexander community. It turns out that David is one of the most respected neuroscientists in the world today, and guess what? He is also a fully trained Alexander teacher!

It’s intimidating to be in a dialogue about Alexander’s Discovery with all these sharp scientific minds – but so refreshing and exhilarating at the same time. I am honing my understanding into a more rigorous, science-based narrative.

Anyway, this is all by way of background to warn you that some heady posts are coming along soon.

I won’t be presenting directly about this in Berlin – except for my “Hearing Neuroscience While Getting Turns” workshop. Instead, I plan to catch up participants in Berlin with the practical teaching methodologies I have been evolving with my trainees over the 13 years since I last presented at a Congress.
