Sensei Jekyll Shacho Hyde ATS#enStrange Case of Principal Jekyll & MD Hyde
Jul 10, 2018“Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde” is a book published in 1886 by Robert Louis Stevenson whose main character fluctuates between good and evil. Dr Jekyll is kind, honest, gentle and respectful of others. Mr Hyde is more like President Trump: self-centred, spiteful, rude, mocking others and careless with other peoples’ lives and feelings.
Stevenson’s book struck a chord with the reading public, because we all experience ourselves as good and evil. We are all seen as Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde.
In my case, I appear to play two roles at BodyChance:
“Strange Case of Principal Jekyll and MD Hyde.”
I don’t think I am evil, but neither am I seen as always benevolent by others. I am both hated and loved, depending on who you ask.
Take your own life. You also – if you search for it – are a goody and a baddy to different people. Maybe your teenage son or daughter is despising you right now? Maybe your Supervisor at work is derogatory? Maybe a colleague at work is frustrated and angry with you?
Somewhere, someone sees you as bad. Even evil.
And there’s nothing you can do about that.
You can listen – that’s good. You can make decisions that you believe are fair, kind, honest or necessary. But you cannot stop the projections that others put on to you. If you try, you will go insane.
Constructive thinking is the process of being able to stay connected to reality. To see that the only person who truly knows you is you. To live according to what is honest and true for you – even if that means others see you as the evil Mr Hyde.
Part of the postural revolution that BodyChance is leading is about understanding that Posture is identity. Posture is not something just physical, it is all-embracing.
Posture is your physical and emotional identity as a person.
Someone says: “I saw you in the distance at the shops – I know your walk anywhere!”
They know your walk. YOUR walk.
Even a walk – something so universal and common – is still unique to you. Posture is about being unique. There is no single type of Posture that fits to everyone. Posture is about what you are doing, where you are doing it and why.
It’s about being awake to what you want, and how you go about getting it.
And it starts with physical awareness. It is concrete and real. Improving Posture begins with connecting more closely to the reality of your own body. This is how I markeach these days, and it is a simple message designed for people who think a lot about their “Posture”. No mention of Alexander Technique, not even a mention of Alexander.
YET.
Soon I will start coaching again, and I am going to put the emphasis back on the work itself. I am going to coach you as a AT Markeacher. (Alexscovery Teacher + Marketer)
I’ve got plans to make a generous offer, but the best part will be joining a regular, supportive network of teachers – that you are free to start and stop anytime – that aims to make our world a better place.
Stay tuned.
