Seven Reasons to Change Your Posture

May 28, 2020

1. Are you comfortable in your Self?
2. Develop your Posture  improve your skills.
3. An effective form of energy conservation  feel motivated again.
4. Breathing improves  easy intake; longer breath, more air.
5. Unexpected improvements can happen (eyesight, digestion, hearing)
6. You look more attractive  people are nicer.
7. Your brain gets smarter. Really.

If you’re a regular reader of my Daily, you know I keep hitting away at one thing:

Improved Posture is central to everything.

It facilitates better breathing.
It conserves your energy.
It evolves your skills.
It improves your thinking.
It helps you live longer.
It improves your health.

And you look more attractive. Even smarter.

I remember a workshop I did with my mischievous and brilliant teacher Marjorie Barstow (1899-1996) back in the 80s. She helped a student walking. The change was dramatic. What had once been a confused, sprawling walk was focused into an intentional, coordinated walk. As we watched, Marj commented:

“Now you look like you know something.”

And it was true!
Her Posture managed to express to us that intelligence was at work there. She looked smarter, like she really did know something.

And of course, she did know something.

She knew her mind was improving her walking Posture. I don’t ask you to do a lot of dumb, meaty exercises in the hope things will get better.

I ask you to follow a conscious, constructive teaching plan like this:

1. You decide what you want to do; THEN…

2. You gather information about how you do it; THEN…

3. You analyse that information; THEN…

4. You repeatedly experiment – going through the first three steps; THEN…

5. You implement your new Postural plan; THEN…

6. You experience the fruits of your intelligence!

It is a process of mind, not a series of exercises.

Marj was right: you will know something by the time you’re finished.

A lot of your effort is in Steps 2 & 3 – being able to analyse the information you gather. For accomplishing that, I offer teachers and students alike my BodyThinking Online course. Initially designed for the world’s largest Alexander training school in Japan, now anyone can purchase and study this comprehensive course.

And many have. Teachers. Students. Beginners.

It is suitable for anyone – no need to be a teacher. Just want to look like you know something.

BodyThinking can inform you in a way that – unfortunately – many Alexscovery teachers are not. Today, students expect more. And with online teaching here to stay, experts need to speak expertly.

My offer comes with a lot of other goodies:

- a recording of my 1-Day BodyThinking workshop delivered in Japan;

- Greg Holdaway’s Super-Sized BodyThinking workshop videos - showing lots of lessons where he applies BT knowledge to assist students in developing their skills.

- 5 coaching sessions where I cover a wide range of topics and ideas

- BodyChance’s recent Golden Week Symposium: “How to Teach Online (by example)” with Cathy Madden, Lucia Walker, Malcolm Balk, Greg Holdaway and others.

And the course itself: over 40 years of my teaching distilled into 66 videos that will enhance your ability to move freely and teach expertly. It’s not just a course; it’s a reference library you can return to whenever you need detailed information about any specific movements from an Alexscovery perspective. Read more at the link below:
