You know what a dentist is, don't you?

No-one has to explain that to you. It's easy. But some things are not so easy. And sometimes, the most obvious things are the hardest things to explain.

It happened to me with my Grand old Aunt - 96 at the time - when she asked me:

"Jerry, what is a computer?"

Go on - EXPLAIN THAT to someone born in 1879.

Years ago, a dear friend of my mother heard that I was studying some odd thing in London. She started to make polite conversation with me…

I thought she was joking and laughed.

In the market today, the majority of teachers niche to "Alexander Technique." Many of them act with the assumption that people are already looking for a teacher of Alexander Technique…

News Flash - THEY AREN'T LOOKING.

And their reaction to the words "Alexander Technique" maybe mirrors yours to "McKenzie Method?"

Before you can sell a damn thing, you have to explain what it is you are selling! Like one of those guys at a market selling the latest weird toy for kids.

A dentist doesn't have that problem.

Nor does a doctor, chiropractor, counsellor, psychologist, osteopath, physical therapist, masseur, Yoga instructor, Life coach - get the idea?

THEY usually have people looking for them, so THEY only need to point out why they are the best at what they do.

But we are something:

- people don't know they need;

- people don't know what it is;

- and people don't know how it helps.

Cheeezus!

If you are just trying to sell Alexander Technique, you have this problem.

Even if you first sell "benefits" - such as many teachers do - you eventually get the inevitable question: but how can you do this?

Which is why I think you are better off spending your energy convincing a bunch of corporates, than you are trying to convince a bunch of individual students.

All your work will have a better payday, no question.

Start thinking about "corporations" as your students. Easy.
