Success has a Price - It Doesn't Come Free
Apr 06, 2018I am not making some people happy this week.
I've had one writer object to his perceived criticism of the International Congress in Chicago, so let me set the record straight.
Having a Congress, meeting your friends, developing your teaching skills, meeting new people - these are all pleasant things to do. And if it pleases you - and you can afford it - what's wrong with that?
NOTHING.
In fact, I was invited to be a Continuing Education Teacher at the Chicago Congress. I said no. I loved the idea of meeting a bunch of old friends and having a holiday in Chicago, but that's a luxury I cannot afford.
They weren't offering to give money for my time, and I wasn't offering to give my time for no money. Yes, I will miss my old friends and maybe lose making a few new contacts I admit.
Success has a price; it doesn't come free.
And you have to get your priorities in place. The priority - for any teacher - is students. Without students, how do you know if you improved your teaching skills or not?
I am not debunking the Congress this week, I am debunking the idea that going to the Congress is the best way to "improve" your practice as a teacher of Alexander's discovery.
As Joe Biden would say: "That's a bunch of malarkey."
Of course, you need teachers - the great, late Marj was my last esteemed Alexscovery teacher - and I learnt a heap from her. But I only absorbed and integrated her advice by figuring out how to apply it to real, living, breathing students with problems they wanted to be solved.
Teachers who return from the Congress to a busy practice will extract maximum value from their learning experiences.
Because students teach you best - especially the difficult ones.
And I say: if you don't have as many students as you need to develop as a teacher - put THAT first. Make your Self a markeacher - find a way of teaching that attracts and convert people to be the students that teach you how to teach them.
That's what ATSuccess is all about - showing you how to markeach. There are a wide variety of courses to choose.
The best deal right now is my Corporate course starting in May.
