The Antidote To Risk Is Skill

Yesterday, I wrote about being in your teaching space faced with a "mystery."

I told my story of a professional singer asking me a tricky question of performance quality - which zoomed way past my pay grade.

Your challenging situation can be:

- an angry pupil

- an impossible request

- a student is sprouting an endless stream of "story, story, story."

Face with the inability to act - you're going to need an "if, then" plan. "If" I don't know what to do... --> "then" this is what I will do.

How many of those back pocket plans do you have?

I am guessing that for teaching; you have a grab bag of techniques - like my 3-Point-Teaching Plan for Mysterious Requests.

The antidote to risk is skill and experience.

But how about this situation?

You sit opposite a money guy from ExxonMobile: and he says:

"Can you do an in-service deal?"

Initially, I had no idea what the Texan guy was asking.

Like my singer asking me about HER inner complexity so will company people assume you have THEIR lexicon down pat.

Ahhh, what can I say about Texas - where almost everyone has a gun; they couldn't be kinder, and they managed to execute 549 people since 1982.

Anything to do with Texas - I give my Self a pass.

But the same law applies - even in Texas - skill mitigates risk. Don't invest in anything you don't understand. If you're going to go into a new line of work, skill up first.
