The Ascension to One

Jul 04, 2020

A feature of stress is having a disjointed bodily feeling.

By this, I mean that you have all sorts of different sensations coming at you. Sore eyes, aching back, tired legs, some breathlessness – an assortment of symptoms that feel unrelated and disconnected. Your thinking is the same – darting around between different thoughts - some brutal to you - and finding it hard to focus on what you need to do.

This is most peoples’ norm.

This is what stress feels like in our modern era.

Which is why the experience people often have at their first Alexander lesson is so exquisite – it is an ascension into a feeling one, whole, integrated person.

This experience is not something Alexander’s work manufactures – your neuro-muscular system is designed to operate in this integrated, holistic way. It is the plan of Nature, the result of evolution.

So how do you become separated?

It’s a question many people ask, but it’s an unhelpful question.

Instead ask: how do I ascend to one?

In Alexander terms, we define one as a whole, integrated system working in harmony with itself. Artists, sportspeople, musicians, gamers and others call this:

‘getting in the groove’ or ‘working in the zone.’

Referring to my definition of a stressed state above – this is the complete opposite. Instead of feeling you have a lot of disconnected parts; instead, you experience a sense of all of you doing one thing really well.

Contented, focused – no distractions.

What is the base of this feeling of wholeness, of oneness?

It is a neuromuscular system that is not at war against itself. A significant number of aches and pains originate from conflicting messages being sent to your movement system. As simple as sitting in a chair – people are at war when they are constantly trying to sit up straight. After they do, a few minutes later, they feel themselves shrinking again in front of their computer screen.

Getting into the Zone of oneness starts with understanding how you are designed to do what you are doing.

This design is what you study in my BodyThinking Online course.

A student sings a song, you watch, and see that somewhere the student is at war with themselves without really knowing it. It may be that every time they want more air, they compress down on their body to try to get the air. While the feeling of effort as they push down may feel satisfying to them – they are also creating more difficulty for the air to get in and out.

The very opposite of their intention; they are adding separation to unity.

Seeing this takes a clear understanding of the design of human movement. This is what you can gather with my 66 videos in the BodyThinking Online course. It is not an anatomy course – it is a study of movement from an Alexander perspective.

Sit there – and slowly digest a vast volume of understanding that personally took me 40 years to absorb and integrate. Stand on my arms and save your Self a decade or more of study.

This course is for anyone – student of Alexander, teacher of voice, instructor of Yoga, Pilates Trainer and, of course, Alexscovery teachers.

If you want the tools to be effective online in your communication – you need to train. You need to be able to see movement and analyse based on a comprehensive idea of Alexander’s discovery as it relates to human design.

I’ve got a fantastic, generous offer available right.

It includes access to the “How to Teach Online (by example)” Symposium that BodyChance organised this year in place of it’s annual residential.
