The Future of Teaching Online

It's night time now, and the Mullumbimby moon is just past being full.

Tomorrow at 6am - in Australia - I start my online group teaching course, and enter a new world. Like most things I do, one of my motivations is my belief that the best way to go deeper into anything is to teach it to others.

There is a huge future for our work in online teaching - and the promise of Alexander's discovery being more widely disseminated and utilized. I intend to be surfing at the front of this Tsunami.

It is a powerful solution for Alexscovery teachers struggling in obscure locations, without the income they need, to do what they are most passionate about.

It requires a new teaching technology to facilitate it, and we're at the very early stages of developing these methods.

Many differing factors need to be combined to make online teaching effective.

I'll be honest - while I have done a huge amount of online coaching over the last 5 years - not all of my experience involved Alexander lessons in the traditional sense. With a school of 136 trainees, I have my hands full keeping up with everyone's name and inclinations in this live arena, forgot about online.

However, I can't forget online any more.

And neither can you - that is, if you have a teaching career spanning more than 10 years in front of you? People will come to expect it, they will want it from you. The market will only increase with this demand…

Ignore the market at your peril.

Soon I meet up online with a group of 32 teachers (you can still join them) and we start the energising process of reimagining group work, in a way that also facilitates teaching online. We'll be together more than just the 8 weeks - I intend to make this a year's worth of practising.

For some teachers, it is a natural extension of what they are already doing. For others, it is an adventure, a complete makeover of ideas and practises.
