The Future & You

Aug 29, 2019

If you're young - or you're looking for meaningful retirement – make sure you read this before making any decisions.

It all starts with Chess.

Yes, we admire those good at it – thinking anyone good at Chess must be really, really smart. That is until IBM'S Deep Blue defeated World Chess Champion Garry Kasparov in 1997. That day, the world changed.

However, soon after that, computers gave up on humans and started fighting each other for supremacy.

Yuval Noah Harari – in his 3rd epistle on the foibles of Sapiens in "21 Lessons for the 21st Century" - presents the epic 2016 battle between Googles AlphaZero and Stockfish 8.

Stockfish 8 is an app you can download and use on your computer to help you play Chess. It can defeat any human – it only plays other computers. It started its development in 2004, so by 2016 - when it matched up with AlphaZero - it was already a seasoned veteran of Chess.

AlphaZero, on the other hand, was just a baby. It got no help from humans to learn how to play Chess. It merely played against itself – calling on the Gods of Silicon Valley to program it's "machine learning" protocols.

It took Stockfish 8 twelve years to prepare for the match with AlphaZero.

It took AlphaZero four hours.

AlphaZero won.

Not only did it win, it showed incredible "creativity" – demonstrating ways of playing Chess that humans had not imagined before.

Yes, computers are now officially able to be creative!

This is your future – an algorithm running that produces unseen creativity in ways that are beyond our ability to explain. Andrew Yang – a Democratic Candidate for the 2020 Presidential election – is telling Americans:

"I've done the MATH, it's not immigrants taking our jobs, it's automation. Instead of blaming immigrants, let's give our citizens the means to thrive through the fourth industrial revolution."

And this is right.

Soon unimaginably smart algorithms will be planning your holidays, diagnosing your medical conditions, advising on legal matters and - like AlphaZero in Chess - doing it way better than any human.

What can humans do what an algorithm cannot?

I know one Profession that is certain to be safe from the onslaught of machine-learning algorithms – discovering how to communicate Alexander's discovery to other Sapiens.

More on this in the coming days…

And it does start with knowing things – you can’t get around that. You can discover more on how to upgrade your skill set to beat those computers – by joining my BodyThinking community online.
