The Genius of Greg – Part I

Nov 01, 2019

Or is it the genius of Alexander?

Maybe it's a mix of both.

This is the story of how Greg saved me from a crisis, and used Alexander's Discovery to do it.

My story could equally be about a musician in crisis, scared they are going to lose their career because of a physical problem; or a Yogini, suffering more discomfort than they are comfortable to say. Or may you one day - experiencing some new pain that is jeopardizing something you love doing.

In my case, it is running.

For the last year, I have been running 5 kilometres most days and enjoying a lot of renewed energy and vitality. Then a week ago, while lying on my bed, my ankle started to scream at me.

It was mysterious because while running, it had not hurt at all.

Now it was one day later while lying on the bed reading. What is going on?!

Maybe this was sent to test me. If you follow Chancer, you know by now that pain is a good thing. My ankle was screaming at me – you are doing something wrong!

Alexscovery teachers are as prone to injury, disinformation and dysfunction as much as the next person.

It just so happened that this week Greg Holdaway is visiting Japan. Greg is a teacher I respect very much – which is why I made him an Associate Director of BodyChance. He visits us every year, when he is not teaching on his own training school. So when he started the class, I announced to my trainees that I was a student today, and they were going to watch Greg give me a lesson.

He asked me to walk and – as I later found out – he knew precisely why my ankle was complaining.

After my walk, he came over and stood beside me. He started explaining some of his teaching principles to the whole group. As I was listening, I felt the tip of his finger just below my left armpit. I was listening to his words, my ego chattering away to myself silently as Greg continued speaking and touching me:

"Oh, I might debate that with Greg later. I think…."

Wait.

My ankle feels better.

What is he doing? How is that happening?!

As I stood there, being lightly touched by Greg at the base of my left armpit, a transformation of gigantic proportions was flooding through my proprioceptive system. Not only my ankle but now my whole leg was reorganizing itself, with a delicious sense of relief and lightness.

Oh, I thought, this must be how my trainees feel sometimes.

It is like a miracle; it is simply amazing. And the reason for the change is not mysterious at all.

Tomorrow: Part II – The Genius of Alexander.

The methods I use, and Greg uses, are part of my BodyThinking Online course, which I am offering at a special price until the end of this year. More about that offer here:
