The Japan Baseball Ticket Saga

My eldest daughter loves baseball.

Having first grown up in Japan, she follows the Giants in Tokyo. Her dream is to attend a live event, so as she is coming to Japan for her birthday, we found a game on June 22nd she could attend.

Buying the ticket was an amazing journey into the heart of Japanese daily life. Six different vendors sell tickets for the match at Tokyo Dome and more than 16 different ticket types. You move through 4 or 5 screens, all in tiny Japanese characters.

Luckily, I had a friend navigate it for me. He was not a baseball fan, so it took us over an hour to figure it out and buy two tickets. Then the ticket arrived.

He read me the message - PRINTED ON THE TICKET:

"You can not cheer the Giants in this seat.

You cannot wave signs that support the Giants.

You cannot wear a Giants t-shirt or any Giants uniform."

WHAT?!

I had ignored a cultural taboo and bought a ticket right in the middle of the Visitors area!

My error was simple - I had failed to research the market.
